Burrville Cider Mill

I'm pretty sure the biggest perk of living up here is fall. Autumn here is just enjoyable. Never mind the fact that it is, literally, stunning with all of the color changes and how vibrant it is for a few weeks, but the north country just thrives on this season. Case in point, the Burrville Cider Mill. This place only is open during the fall, and it's a spot you don't want to miss.

Our trip here was inspired by my wonderful husband, who knows the way to my heart is through sugar. He went here on a therapy outing one day and caught a taste of their world famous cider donuts. In his words, "The first thing I thought when I tasted this was, 'Oh, Danielle is going to love this.'" He then proceeded to text me that he was taking me there, and so we went a couple weeks later. As I've mentioned before, he knows me well and let me tell you. Those donuts? BEST I'VE EVER HAD. I want people to come visit us just so they can have one of those donuts. I'll touch more on this in a moment.

As good as they are, it's really not the only reason to visit there. It's an adorable place, with crates and crates of apples from all kinds of local orchards. Seeing as we're the kind of people who buy local when offered, this was a huge bonus for us and it gets a huge check mark. They're priced well, too, so you can't go wrong. They have some other produce there, as well, like Indian Corn (my favorite!) and squash. Again, local and cheap.

Like the name suggests, they do, in fact, make their own cider. Just like everything else, too, their cider is incredible. We have a carton of it in our fridge and I plan on going back to get more before they close down for the year. They have plenty of other apple products, too, such as apple butter and the pumpkin butter shown above. It's all made by them and it's all absolutely delicious. And, this brings us back to the donuts. Oh, those donuts. When you walk in the shop and up to the small donut counter, you see them being made right then and there. Little rings of dough floating along through the oil and then taken out and either left as is for just a plain donut, or given the addition of cinnamon and sugar. Then, when given to you, they're fresh and warm and pretty much melt in your mouth. The dough is so soft and has such a good apple cider taste. I wish I could describe these better, because this doesn't even do them justice. You need to try them to know, hence why I wish people could come here just for those donuts. Or that I could ship them out across the country with them still as good as they are right out of the oil.

And if all that wasn't enough, there's the waterfall in the back of the mill that looks like water descending these steps of stone down into a small river. It is so beautiful there, and I imagine that it looks the best during the fall. I can't see it looking any more impeccable than it does right now.

Seriously, I have the best husband. Or, I know I chose the right one when he thinks of me and my love for sweets right after having some of his own. This has to be at the top of the list of dates we've been on and bless his sweet heart for taking me here. My stomach certainly loves him for it.
